Spoonflower fabric 8 competition

Earlier this month I entered into the Spoonflower fabric 8 competition.  The theme was geeky chic and I used music for my initial inspiration.... I drew MP3 players and headphones.  This week I received a mail to say that my design had made it into the semi final round.  There are 100 semi finalists that have been selected by a team of industry professionals from Robert Kaufman and Spoonflower from over 750 designs.  Happy day.

You can vote for your favorite design on the fabric 8 contest here.

Yorkshire sculpture park

The weather was lovely and sunny over the bank holiday weekend so made the most of it by spending lots of time outdoors.  I went out to the Yorkshire sculpture park to see the work of Yinka Shonibare, an exhibition named Fabric-ation.  It includes a variety of colourful and vibrant works that have been created using sculpture, film, photography, collage and painting.

Had lots of fun doing jump photographs too................

The Beach

I have been working on some greetings card designs over the last two weeks but still have to make a complete collection.  At times choosing the colours can be difficult and I can go back to it the next day and spends lots of time changing the palette.  I sometime take a break to stop my eyes going all googly and do something else instead.

French window

Yep I have been neglecting my blog so to make up for the break I thought I create something warm and colourful for a cold dull day.  This is a photo of a French window in Battambang, Cambodia where I went for a winter holiday

Collagraph prints

In the last few days I have attended two different print classes.  I haven't created anything by hand for a while so it was good to refresh.  I made several collagraph plates from mount board, scraps of paper and cotton.  I was influenced and thinking of the Peak District National park when I made them.

Garden of light in Bradford

Bradford's city park has been transformed into a colourful night garden of light.  It is on until the 14th of October and lights up at dusk every night.  It is a display of bright green spiral stems, circular florals dandelion clocks and blue hanging tree lights.

Bradford sculpture trail

Earlier this month I spent a day in Bradford and walked around the Bradford sculpture trail.  Some of the sculptures are quite old and traditional but some of the newer sculptures are very innovative such as 'The needle' by Rick Faulkner. I like 'Fibres' by Ian Randall and Grandad's clock and chair by Timothy Shutter.
